IT Services: Core Services definition

IT Services has attempted to define its role by way of writing a Core Services definition. As you will see when you read it, this is not intended to be something set in a tablet of stone but aims to be helpful to both users of our services and our own staff in making more clear our areas of responsibility.

It is written in a form that describes a set of generic services (eg e-mail) and then gives the currently supported elements (eg the specific e-mail client software packages that we support). Over a period of time, both of these will develop and change of course – the set of generic services naturally less often than the implementation of particular services. It is our intention to keep the Core Services definition as up-to-date as possible and so we shall review it at least every six months.

The definition may be found at:

We would welcome feedback on this endeavour – on both the content and principles behind it. Any comments should be sent to the Helpdesk in the first instance.
