Oracle 9 upgrades

As part of the Business Improvements and IT Services effort to move all existing Oracle databases to Oracle 9i, during the past couple of months most of the remaining systems have been migrated. These include databases for SITS (central student records system), PAMS (student accommodation system), the On-Line Exam Papers, Freedom of Information, SIPS (student information points) and DocMan.

The opportunity was used to upgrade the hardware SITS and PAMS are running on. This will ensure future scalability of these systems as well as their ability to be upgraded with the software releases developed by our suppliers. It is hoped that users will notice the difference in the system response times and speed of processes.

The time and effort invested by Giles Christian, Son Truong and Chris Wimlett are gratefully acknowledged.
