Plagiarism Advisory Service

The national Plagiarism Advisory Service, funded by the JISC, commenced in September 2002. The service is being developed and run by the Information Management Research Institute (IMRI) at Northumbria University, and can be accessed at:

www.northumbria.ac.uk/jiscpas

The service will provide generic guidance and advice to institutions, academics and students relating to the prevention and detection of plagiarism. The Plagiarism Advisory Service promotes the adoption of a holistic approach to plagiarism prevention encompassing institutional policy and procedures, academic practice and student skills.

The service aims to identify and disseminate examples of best practice in these areas, and also to source and evaluate learning materials to support this approach. Individuals interested in the prevention and detection of plagiarism are invited to join the Plagiarism Advisory Service discussion list accessible via the service web-site above.

The service also hosts a link to the electronic plagiarism detection service supplied by iParadigms, which is also funded by the JISC and available to all JISC sites.

Any enquiries about the new service should be directed to Fiona Duggan, Plagiarism Advisory Service Manager, at:
