Updating your personal copy of Netscape

If you have experienced problems in getting access to the Netscape Web site in the USA in order to update your copy of the Netscape Navigator (browser), you will be interested to know that the Netscape version 2.02 for the Macintosh is available locally on the CL Mac FileServer.

Select AppleShare in the Chooser; double-click on CL Mac FileServer in the file server list, log on as 'guest' and press again to choose the CL Public Access Server (the only highlighted choice); the server comes up as a disk icon which you can open in the normal way. The Netscape folder contains an installer for v2.02, together with ReadMe files. For those with small Macs, v1.1 is also available in this way.

For later Macintosh versions and for PC versions, you can instead use a 'mirror site' provided by HENSA (the Higher Education National Software Archive).
